General Meeting Minutes

Opening: Opening Prayer (Invocation), Pledge of Allegiance

Carl Seel, Legislative District 6 Representative, spoke on the Take America Back Freedom Forum held last month at the Phoenix Civic Center. Representative Seel outlined the five-point action plan which came from this forum. State legislators are encouraged to: 1) Pass freedom of choice health care bills which will override national mandates for individual purchase of health insurance, 2) Ensure courts do not use foreign precedent to decide cases, 3) Set up state escrow accounts to enable financial independence from the federal government, 4) Attempt to pass gun law legislation in as many states as possible similar to that passed in Montana, and 5) Reestablish a sheriff’s first policy giving them the ability to enforce the law, especially as it pertains to illegal immigration. In addition to these five actions, Representative Seel said it is also a goal to establish a policy library for sharing such information among the 50 state legislatures.

Second up on the agenda, we watched a video on the history and the writing of our national anthem. During the War of 1812, a lawyer named Francis Scott Key of Baltimore was sent to a ship where he negotiated the release of prisoners being held there. He was informed by the ship’s captain that he could not return to shore until morning because the entire British fleet was going to bombard Ft. McHenry. The captain told Mr. Key to end the bombardment all those in the fort had to do was to lower the flag. The shelling commenced at twilight and continued for hours. At one point the ship’s captain wondered why they had not lowered the flag and he stated that the fleet was going to focus their bombardment exclusively on the area of the flag. Francis Scott Key recalled what George Washington had said, “What separates the American Christian from all others is he will die on his feet before he will live on his knees.” The next morning the flag was tattered yet remained standing at an awkward angle being held up by all the dead bodies piled at its base. Francis Scott Key put pen to paper and wrote:

Oh, say can you see by the dawn's early light
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars thru the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket's red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
Oh, say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

Next we were entertained by the comedic musing of conservative Eric Golub who has written a book titled Idealogical Bigotry by eric aka the Tygrrrr Express. Eric was entertaining and totally unafraid of breeching the realm of political incorrectness. Many laughs were shared by all in attendance.

Robert Zuluaga, CCM of Phoenix president, led a discussion on a need for action and activism. The TAB Freedom Forum focused on state rights and the five key areas mentioned earlier. Robert reports people are awakening to the problems we face as a nation and are beginning to stand up. It was an opportunity to network and perhaps even expose some who want the constitutional conservative’s vote without following through on an agreeable agenda. Robert sees the need for us to link up with other state legislators and groups to help push the agenda. We must organize to support legislators to do the right thing. A suggestion was made to organize a calling/action tree.

Robert believes that legislation to remove mortgage defaults from negatively impacting a person’s credit report would help force banks to work with people to refinance their homes. Many people today are faced with the situation where they owe more on the home than it is worth. If negative credit reporting were removed as an option for the bank, then they would most likely be willing to work with an individual to refinance their home at the home’s current value. Finally we viewed an interview of David Barton, a Christian historian, titled American’s Christian Heritage. David explains the Christian faith of our founders, in particular of James Wilson, a signer of the constitution and an original Supreme Court justice. James Wilson wrote the first law book for university students which was based heavily upon the Bible. He also examines a quote from George Washington and John Adam’s Secretary of War, James McHenry. McHenry wrote, “Public utility pleads most forcibly for the distribution of the Holy Scriptures… [These] can alone secure to society, order and peace, and to our courts of justice and constitutions of government, purity, security, and usefulness. In vain, without the Bible, we increase penal laws and draw entrenchments around our institutions. Bibles are strong entrenchments. Where they abound, men cannot pursue wicked courses.” Barton gives additional examples of quotes referencing other founder’s faith and their perspective on this nation’s biblical foundation. History has been revised, especially over the past 90 to 100 years. Now, if you are pro-faith you are seen as anti-constitutional when the exact opposite is true.
